Social Care Green Paper delayed until Autumn

Teressa May confirmed a £20bn 70th Birthday present for the NHS and a day later Jeremy Hunt announced the expected delay for the Social Care Green Paper. But if it means time to look at how Health relies on Social Care to drive efficiency and save money then it has to be a sensible delay and a welcome relief, rather than another rash, unsustainable plan that has to be changed months later. We expected taxation and a delay, let's hope we get a revision of eligibility and manageable approach to changes in property disregard...

"While the long-term funding profile of the social care system will not be settled until the spending review, we will publish the social care Green Paper ahead of that. However, because we want to integrate plans for social care with the new NHS plan, it does not make sense to publish it before the NHS plan has even been drafted, so we now intend to publish the social care Green Paper in the autumn around the same time as the NHS plan".
